A Story of Wayward Pets and Crowded Shelters - By Johnathan Comer
Stray animal control and pet overpopulation is a huge problem not only in Sacramento but around the country. It is also a problem which can easily be remedied with compassion, responsibility and education. Our city is lucky enough to have great animal shelters and compassionate citizens with the energy and patience to provide both animals and the public with vital services. Unfortunately, each year as the economy suffers the budget shrinks for many municipal agencies, and non-profit organizations swell. In this short piece, it is my goal to shed some light on the problem and offer some simple solutions. A huge ovation of thanks goes out to: Sacramento Animal Care Services, Sacramento County Animal Control, SPCA, CATS, Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary, and many other great animal shelters. They provide vital services such animal welfare, adoptions, vaccinations, spay and neuter clinics, and public assistance. It is through them that those with no voice can be heard and cared for.
